2013 Grant Application Deadlines

Glens Falls, New York: The Charles R. Wood Foundation is currently accepting grant applications from IRS approved 501(c)3 organizations whose projects or programs assist children, healthcare or the arts in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas.  Eligible applicants are invited to visit the website www.charlesrwoodfoundation.org to submit an online application by April 1, 2013 for consideration at the spring meeting of Trustees. The next subsequent deadline will be September 1, 2013 for consideration at the fall meeting.

Over the past six years the Foundation has awarded nearly $9 million dollars, $8,843,450. “We are so pleased to be able to invest in such worthwhile projects. From the smallest soup kitchens to the larger capital projects, we are committed to investing in children, healthcare and the arts in our geographical focus area”, states Josie Beckos-Wood, Chairperson and Trustee.

Charles R. Wood established the Foundation that bears his name in 1978 to provide assistance in areas of special need in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on programs for children, healthcare and the arts.  Mr. Wood, founder of Storytown USA, the present-day Great Escape Theme Park, the Double H Hole in the Woods Camp for critically ill children and numerous other endeavors and businesses in the area, died in September of 2004 leaving the majority of his estate to the Charles R. Wood Foundation.

The following grants to area nonprofit organizations totaling nearly $1.4 million were

awarded in 2012:

$250,000 to the Albany Medical Center Hospital for their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit;

$215,000 to Glens Falls Hospital towards the purchase of linear accelerator equipment;

$150,000 to Warren County for the development of a park on the former Gaslight Village property;

$114,000 the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, for the Strand Theater Orchestra Pit;

$84,500 in support of various area food pantry holiday meals;

$75,000 to the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, for the organ rebuilding project;

$50,000 to the Hudson Headwaters Health Network, for the Warrensburg Health Center;

$46,488 to the JCEO of Clinton & Franklin for the Head Start Program’s iStartSmart computer system;

$43,500 to Peaceful Acres Horses, Inc.  in support of a new Yurt building project;

$38,000 to United Cerebral Palsy Association of the Tri-Counties, Inc. for the purchase of a handicap-equipped van for the Prospect Child & Family Center;

$37,500 to the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center in support of the New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra Program;

$35,000 to the YMCA of the Capital District for the Y-Knot Sailing Pavilion;

$25,000 to the Hyde Collection Trust for the Modern Nature: Georgia O’Keefe Catalogue;

$25,000 to Wiawaka Holiday House for the renovation of the Wakonda Lodge Respite and Learning Center;

$25,000 to the Dollywood Foundation for the implementation of the Imagination Library Program in Hamilton, Essex, Franklin and Clinton Counties;

$20,000 to the Adirondack Community College Foundation for the construction of the Regional Higher Education Center;

$17,750 to the Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch for stagecoach repair;

$16,800 to several area libraries for technological improvements in coordination with the New York State Construction Grant matching program;

$15,000 to the Sunnyview Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for the purchase of an InMotion Robot for Rehabilitation device;

$15,000 to High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care;

$10,000 to St. Lawrence University for the expenses of the Branching Out with Books program;

$10,000 to the Special Olympics New York, Inc. for the 2012 NYS Fall Games;

$10,000 to Friends of the Town of Johnsburg, NY Parks for pond remediation;

$10,000 to Adirondack Theatre Festival, Inc. for the artist residence renovation;

$10,000 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks for the Mentoring Children of Promise program;

$10,000 to the Mentor Connector;

$10,000 to the Parson’s Child & Family Center for the Camp to Belong program;

$10,000 to the Vermont Foodbank towards the Rutland expansion project;

$9,000 to Greenfield Review Press for barn renovations;

$5,000 to Wildwood Programs, Inc. for a low ropes course;

$5,000 to Vermont’s Camp Takumta for the bathroom building project;

$5,000 to the American National Red Cross for disaster response and emergency preparedness programs;

$5,000 to the Pierce Hall Community Center for elevator and stair tower remediation;

$4,800 to Caritas Inc. for new volunteer recruitment and training programs;

$4,500 to Amanda’s House for roof repair;

$4,000 to Pendragon, Inc. for school touring program expenses;

$3,750 to the Seagle Music Colony for the Young Artist Program;

$3,150 to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association for training videos;

$3,000 to Creative Healing Connections for women’s retreats;

$2,500 to the Franklin Community Center for Project Lift;

$2,500 to the Corinth Parent Teacher Student Association for a playground;

$2,500 to the Lake George Opera Festival Association to fund Young Artist Masterclasses;

$2,000 to the Depot Theatre;

$2,000 to To Life! Inc. for the “Beat the Odds” educational program;

$2,000 to the Adirondack Folk School for renovation and repairs;

$2,000 to the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra, towards the purchase of the Hugh Allen Wilson Memorial Harpsichord;

$2,000 to Family and Children’s Service of the Capital Region, for the Moreau crisis call center; and,

$2,000 to the Senior Citizens Center of Saratoga Springs for an arts program.

In addition, $12,676 was granted in smaller denominations to benefit various other not-for-profit organizations.
