The Charles R. Wood Foundation Announces Grants Awarded In 2008

August 18, 2008. Glens Falls, New York: Over the past three years the Foundation has awarded over 3 million dollars - $3,185,000 to benefit the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. The Foundation strongly encourages all grant seekers (must be a valid 501 c3) whose projects or programs assist children, healthcare or the arts to visit our website at www.charlesrwoodfoundation.org and submit an online application. The deadline for our next funding cycle is September 2, 2008. The Foundation will be making grant decisions at their next Board Meeting to be held September 22, 2008.

Charles R. Wood established the Charles R. Wood Foundation in 1978 to provide assistance in areas of special need in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on programs for children, healthcare and the arts. Mr. Wood, founder of Storytown USA, the present-day Great Escape Theme Park, the Double H Hole in the Woods Camp for critically ill children and numerous other endeavors and businesses in the area, died in September of 2004 leaving the majority of his estate to the Foundation that bears his name.

The following grants have been awarded in 2008: $410,000 to the Hudson Headwaters Health Network for the purchase of a digital mammography machine; $150,000 to support the Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch; $125,000 to Fort Hudson Health System for the development of a social day care program for adults; $25,000 to the World Awareness Children’s Museum after they me their match challenge; $21,390 to the Lake George Arts Project to support the renovation of the Courthouse Gallery; $20,000 to the Adirondack Theatre Festival in continued support of the STAGEWRITE program; $15,500 to the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra for the Christmas Concert and the Children’s Program; $11,000 to Saratoga Hospital for the purchase of three Datascope Monitors for the Emergency Room; $10,00 to the Adirondack Community College Foundation to be used toward the construction of a Regional Higher Education Center; $10,000 to St. Joseph’s House of Grace to provide patient health services; $6,000 to the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center to purchase equipment to implement a no-lift/safe patient handling program; $6,000 to the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company to fund concerts; $6,000 to Pendragon; $5,000 to Best Buddies International to launch high school chapters; $5,000 to Caritas; $5,000 to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad for purchase of equipment; $5,000 to the Saratoga Shakespeare Company toward the production of “As You Like It”; $5,000 to the Salvation Army Glens Falls Corps; $5,000 to the West Glens Falls Fire Company toward the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); $3,750 to the Oscar Seagle Association for the Young Artist Fund; $2,500 to the Regional Food Bank of NE New York; $2,400 to Shelters of Saratoga; and $2,000 to the Family Services Association of Glens Falls to provide emergency care. An additional $7,000 was granted to benefit various other not-for-profit organizations.
