2004 Grants Awarded by The Charles R. Wood Foundation

Glens Falls, New York: In 2004 The Charles R. Wood Foundation awarded a total of $309,800 to area agencies and not-for-profit organizations. Founded in 1978 The Charles R. Wood Foundation and its founding Chairman, Charles R. Wood, desired that the foundation would provide assistance to areas of special need in the area, with emphasis on children's health care and the arts.

The following grants were awarded by The Charles R. Wood Foundation during 2004: $45,600 to The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls the majority of which provided support for the exhibition Victorian Visions; $50,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation to assist in local efforts; and $25,000 for the Northeastern New York Alzheimer's Association, to support service in the Adirondack area. The Chapman Museum received $50,000 to support a traveling historical exhibit on the Route 9 corridor between South Glens Falls and Lake George. A final payment of $50,000 for the new Glens Falls YMCA completed the Foundation's previous commitment. The Foundation's total support for that project was $100,000. In memory of Joe Sciancalepore $200 was donated for the benefit of the Double H. Ranch. Other donations made in 2004 were: $74,000 for The Prospect Child and Family Center; $5,000 for Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York; and $10,000 to The Adirondack Theatre Festival to support educational programming.

Beginning this Spring, at various auctions, many of the artworks collected by Mr. Wood will be sold by Sotheby's New York; the proceeds will benefit the Foundation to continue the charitable work Mr. Wood wished to leave as part of his legacy.
